SALT - Positive Sports Coaching

From Sidelines to Lifelines – Coaching That Connects

Some coaches teach skills. Great coaches shape lives. This session is a tribute to the mentors who do more than run drills — they build character, spark confidence, and leave a legacy that lasts far beyond the final whistle.

📅 Date: Tuesday 21 April 2026

🕡 Time: 6:30 – 7:30pm

📍 Location: Clubrooms – 1 Extons Road, Kinglake Central

Key Themes Covered

This session explores the power and responsibility of a coach, the Participation Equation across life stages, and positive psychology and character development through sport. Participants will work through real-life coaching scenarios and inspiring video reflections, and explore how to build trust, respect, and meaningful relationships. The session also covers coaching girls and understanding their unique needs and motivations, creating safe and inclusive environments, and effective, strengths-based communication.

Why It Matters

This session empowers coaches to lead with purpose and empathy, and helps build stronger, more connected club cultures that support mental health, resilience, and belonging. It also helps clubs retain players and volunteers across all ages, while elevating both individual growth and team performance.

"I had the pleasure of attending SALT's Positive Coaching session. The facilitator helped our coaching group gain valuable knowledge on how we can play a very important role for all the individuals in our teams — not only on the sports field but also shaping them to become the best people they can be."

— Coach, Bentleigh Greens FC
